Trincomalee History
Trincomalee is situated in eastern coastal bank of Sri Lanka. It has the Sri Lankas most beautiful untouched long sandy beaches like Nilaveli & Uppuweli. The city was another place occupied by the Dutch rule during the 18th century. One would see the ruins of the Dutch fortress along the way to famous Hindu temple Koneswaram, the god Shiva temple which dates back to thousands of years in related with the famous folklore and myth story Ramayana. Fishing is one the main income providers of the people of Trincomalee, who are mostly Hindus.
Lankapatuna, the place where prince Dantha and princess Hemamala landed with Sacred Tooth Relic of Buddha is located south of the Trincomalee city.
