STOP 2: CEYLON TEA FIELDS & TEA FACTORY

Tea FieldsSri Lanka was formerly known as Ceylon. The humidity, cool temperatures, and rainfall of the central highlands provide a climate that favours the production of high-quality tea. Tea production became one of the main contributors to the economy of Sri Lanka. What many do not know is that Sri Lanka is one of the few countries where each tea leaf is picked by hand rather than by mechanization of modern technology. In general, these tea plants require constant nurturing and attention and the two leaves and a bud, which have the flavour and aroma, are skilfully plucked by mostly women. Take a guided tour around the tea factory and learn how the Ceylon Tea is being produced to the world.

STOP 3: GREGORY LAKE & PARK

Gregory LakeThe Gregory Lake is situated in the heart of Nuwara Eliya hill country. It was built by the British Governor Sir William Gregory in 1873. He authorised the damming of the Thalagala stream, which originates from Mount Pidurutalagala in order to make more land available for the expansion of the Nuwara Eliya town.In 1913 the waters of the lake were directed into a tunnel which flows to a hydro power station at 'Blackpool' between the town and Nanu Oya. The power station continues to supply electricity to the town to this day. This lake was also used for water sports and recreational activities.

STOP 4: VICTORIA PARK

NuwaraeliyaTo commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, this park in Nuwara Eliya was named Victoria Park. It was established with the planting of the first Oak tree by a visiting German Princess. The Nanu Oya River runs through the park, creating a number of small scenic lakes that greatly enhance the park's natural beauty. A large number of rare bird species can be found here.  I would like to take some time to get to know your travelling style and preferences. If you like to move fast to cover as many places as possible or prefer to take it slow & easy and spend more time at certain locations.
